Corinna Norrick-Rühl: ‘Frisky’ objects in the mailbox? Understanding mail-order book culture (Moving Books III)
UdL 6
Raum 2093
Corinna Norrick-Rühl’s interest in book sales clubs and the mass-market distribution they achieved in the 20th century stems from a wider fascination with popular and inexpensive forms of book distribution. In this talk, she revisits Don F. McKenzie’s thinking around the sociology of the text and the book’s frisky, elusive form to further her ideas around mail-order book culture. In keeping with the lecture series theme, she will give special attention to the role of book sales clubs in “moving books”: from the publisher to (millions of) readers, from warehouses to mailboxes, from centers to peripheries.
